Fascinating, so recently my mother has received notification from the UK government, as have all disabled citizens in the UK, that the disability living allowance income provided by the government is now under "review". This is being done because the government is assessing whether anyone that is claiming disability living allowance is healthy enough to have their money stopped and be forced back into employment, with the exception of those diagnosed with terminal cancer.
This is something that the government has been doing for a few years now, in an attempt to cut expenditure costs in anyway possible. Disability living allowance in the UK is divided into a grading system whereby, people with minor disabilities like a bad back that cant work for a while receive the minimal allowance, people with standard types of disabilities like asthma/diabetes/arthritis for instance receive the standard disability living allowance rate. Anyone that requires supervision all day with multiple ailments, difficulty walking and or terminally ill like my mother receive the highest possible rate for disability living allowance.
Now while it is understandable that most Governments around the world in this capitalist money system have to find ways to reduce income expenditure in anyway possible, especially when there genuinely are a lot of people that claim for disability living allowance that are actually able to work. It really does highlight what a dysfunctional system we live in currently when people like my mother who genuinely are physically unable to work are being scrutinised for the validity of their disability, and potentially being forced back into employment as if being disabled is a choice.
Bottom line is that people who have multiple major disablements including: mobility impairments, cognitive dysfunctions, learning dysfunctions, hearing and or vision impairment, chronic and or terminal conditions etc, are not people that should ever have to be assessed for the validity of their disability allowance. Severe disabilities are not ailments that you ever truly get over like a cold/flu or a broken bone for instance, severe disabilities are something that for the most part people are stuck with for life.
I mean you tell me, do you think someone who is severely disabled should be forced to complete labour? To have to fight for survival like someone who is not disabled, when considering that it is hard enough for a person in this system to financially support themselves without a severe disability. No.
But this is the problem with capitalism, it is not designed to support all beings unconditionally from birth to death, all support in this system is always conditional, and essentially capitalism is designed to drain money from 99% in increasing amounts, and feed the 1% in increasing amounts. In capitalism the weakest are always the first targets, which is why so many financially weaker countries have such huge poverty/starvation, it is why so many animals, plants, and children suffer in the world everyday. Which is also why the disabled are now being targeted more in many countries as being prime targets to take more money from.
The wealthy elite as we all can be, are very maniacal and strategically intelligent in stealing money. They know as we all do, that it is always the physically and mentally weakest beings that are the easiest to exploit in life. There is never any aggressive and challenging consequences that can come from exploiting the weak, however with more disabled people getting less and less money, there will inevitably be a percentage rise of frustrated disabled people getting involved in criminal behaviour.
Now when I say that the government is doing these cuts to disability costs in order to free up money, what that means in reality is - cutting expenditure on middle/lower class people -- to be able to cover the bigger "more important bills" that is apparently "owed" to super wealthy people and groups, who already have majority of the worlds wealth. Its like a form of judgement and punishment towards disabled people, for not providing any taxable income to the elite for a long time if ever. So are you disabled? No no no your ok, you should just stop being lazy and get back into the slave based employment system so you can give us more tax money, and you can have less money. It is completely unacceptable.
Interesting also to consider that because we are equal and one within and as this capitalist money system, that in self-honesty everyone can admit to themselves that they have judged a disabled person as lazy in their lifetime. I know I have.
So walk with me in my next blog as I continue to investigate this point.
